Ethical Reasoning in Mathematics: New Directions for Didactics in U.S. Mathematics Education

In this article we analyze the current state of didactics mathematics in U.S. as it relates to research on equity. The sociopolitical turn education resulted a push for critical pedagogies (CMPs) which predominantly marginalized populations students explore social injustices through mathematics. We argue that equity must access broader and develop students’ ethical reasoning skills build an equitable future. To address didactical limitations education, introduce Ethical Reasoning Mathematics Framework (ERiM) tool high school real-world tasks. Using data from initial phase Design Research project with privilege, show how ERiM can be used design lessons elicit math consciousness (CMC). end implications recommendations future
